Results of the ‘EMBAL’ and ‘LUCAS Grassland’ Surveys“

What if species disappear before we even get the chance to count them?

Biodiversity loss in Europe’s agricultural landscapes is no longer a distant concern – it’s a measurable reality. But to guide effective environmental policies, we need more than assumptions or isolated observations. What’s needed is reliable, harmonised, large-scale data.

That’s where the ‘EMBAL 2022/23’ and ‘LUCAS Grassland 2022’ campaigns come in!

The largest ecological monitoring efforts focussed on EU agricultural areas to date: Field teams walked meadows, mapped hedges and counted flowers. These observations were turned into robust datasets and biodiversity indices.

The next step? Turning data into knowledge, and knowledge into action!

On Thursday, 18 September 2025, the main results of both surveys will be presented at our international conference in Brussels:

„Monitoring Biodiversity in European Agricultural Landscapes – Results of the ‘EMBAL’ and ‘LUCAS Grassland’ Surveys“
