This Saturday, for a change, we won’t be looking down at the water from above. That’s because the “Ultraschwimmen Münster 2026” will once again be taking place at the city harbor!
The competition takes place on a 500-meter out-and-back course in the harbor basin. Depending on the distance, participants complete multiple laps: ranging from 1,000 meters to the 10-kilometer long-distance race. In addition, there is a 2-kilometer fin swim. One of our colleagues will also be competing on Saturday, and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for her!
In our daily work, we usually shift our perspective and look down from above at water bodies and landscapes. This is because aerial and satellite imagery allow us to capture rivers, lakes, and oceans — as well as their surroundings — on a large scale and observe changes over extended periods of time. Combined with other geodata and on-site field surveys, this generates important information for environmental monitoring and sustainable decision-making. ‘Ultraschwimmen’, however, isn’t about satellite data, pixels, or time series. Here, what counts are athletic performance, endurance, keeping your eyes on the next turn, and the fun of a great event!
In 2026, we will once again support Tri Finish Münster e. V. and the ‘Ultrachwimmen’ as the main sponsor. After all, commitment is important to us not only in our GeoIT projects, but also right on our doorstep in Münster.
